Kyle M. Smith
Kyle M. Smith attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas on the Provost’s Scholarship and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 2002. While at Baylor, Mr. Smith was a walk-on member of the varsity cross country and track & field teams, a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and an officer in the Baylor University Intrafraternity Council.
After graduating from Baylor, Mr. Smith relocated to Lansing, Michigan to attend Thomas M. Cooley Law School. In his first year of law school, Mr. Smith obtained the thirteenth highest GPA of the 586 students in his incoming class, was on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll each semester he attended, and received the Certificate of Merit for earning the highest grade in his Criminal Procedure class. Based on his outstanding academic achievements, Mr. Smith transferred to the University of Houston Law Center. There he actively participated in the Law Center’s Judicial Internship Program and clerked for the Honorable Jennifer W. Elrod, Justice for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, while she served as Judge of the 190th District Court in Harris County, Texas.
After completing law school, Mr. Smith participated in the Law Center’s Public Interest Fellowship Program. During his tenure with the fellowship program, he worked with Lone Star Legal Aid in Galveston, Texas, where he provided pro bono legal services to victims of Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita, and low-income residents along the Gulf Coast Region of Texas.
After completing his Legal Aid commitment, Mr. Smith joined a prominent plaintiff’s litigation boutique in Galveston County. During his tenure, Mr. Smith worked on a wide array of legal disciplines including the Jones Act, premise liability, breach of contract, real property, auto accidents, wrongful death, and industrial plant accidents. After working on the plaintiff’s side of lawsuits, Mr. Smith joined a Houston defense firm where he defended companies embroiled in personal injury litigation, as well as, complex commercial disputes.
Since joining Holm | Bambace LLP, Mr. Smith has primarily focused his attention on defending companies involved in personal injury and construction defect litigation, as well as defending physicians in medical malpractice litigation.
